Suzuki Ciaz is the latest creation of Suzuki Motor Corp. that falls under the subcompact sedan category. The car has been already launched in countries like India and Thailand, with its Philippines debut scheduled for April 2016. However, Suzuki has already revealed all the information about Ciaz w.r.t its specs and price. As far as the history reads, Suzuki Ciaz is based on the Authentics concept showcased by Suzuki at the 2013 Shanghai Motor Show. Back then this concept was highly praised for its distinctive design language and luxurious aura. Two years later, at 2015 Bangkok Motor Show its production version, what we know as Ciaz made its global debut. Since then there is no looking back with Suzuki Ciaz topping the sales chart in every country where it was launched. For the Philippines market only the 1.4L gasoline mill is confirmed, with its diesel and hybrid variants missing from Suzuki Philippines database. Specifically, for the Philippines market, Suzuki Ciaz would be competing the likes of Toyota Vios, Honda City, Mazda2, and Hyundai Accent.
The Philippines bound Suzuki Ciaz is powered by a 1.4L K 14B inline four cylinder mill. The same mill that can be found accompanying Ciaz in the Indian and Thai market. The said mill runs on a gasoline diet and is capable of delivering a maximum power output of 98 Ps at 6000 rpm along with a peak torque of 130 Nm at 4000 rpm. This new sub-compact sedan will be available in two trim levels GL and GLX. The GL is available with either a 5-speed manual transmission or 4-speed automatic transmission. As for the GLX trim, it is solely available with a 4-speed automatic transmission. Interestingly, engine spec is what Suzuki Ertiga and Ciaz shares in common.
Suzuki Ciaz is a stylish looking car with a captivating aura. From all frontiers, front, side, and rear its design language is rare and distinctive. Tagged as one of the biggest B-segment sedan available in the Philippines market, its dimension sheet reads as 4490 mm on the length, 1730 mm on the width and 1475 mm on the height front. Also, it has an impressive 2650 mm measuring wheelbase that ensures a spacious cabin area. In addition features like multi-layer chrome grille, projector headlamps, chrome door handles, and OVRM fixtures, uniquely shaped tailgate, faux rear air vents adds to its overall appeal.
Like the exterior, the interior too is class part, packed with all modern amenities. Ciaz cabin comes wrapped in black and gray materials, letting one miss a bit of a color splash. Overall quality inside is fine with hard wearing plastic, soft-touch plastic, and silver and chrome accents together working to provide Ciaz its captivating power. Driver and occupants comfort is not an issue here, as the car provides cozy seats, ample leg, and headroom, sufficient storage space, along with a big trunk. As for the entertainment front, the GLX trim comes equipped with an 8-inch infotainment system powered by Android with additional features like preloaded apps ranging from Waze to Youtube. The GL trim, on the other hand, comes with a CE based touch screen system.
Safety in Ciaz is taken care by features like Anti-lock braking System, electronic force distribution system, and SRS dual airbags for driver and passenger. Increasing its security are present features like immobilizer system, remote door locks, security alarm, AND keyless operations (only in GLX). Suzuki has also worked hard on the Noise, Vibration, and Harshness front as the car remains silent and calm even at high speeds. Overall the braking and suspension systems are responsive adding to the driver's confidence.
Ciaz is Suzuki's one powerful attempt to build a strong customer base in the Philippines market. The car is stylish, efficient and is packed with all the major amenities. Its only drawback being its weak safety profile.
