Subaru has maneuvered its path of success in the country with its new crossover Forester 2016 which has undergone numerous styling and tech upgrades to compete in the compact crossover segment. The new Subaru Forester 2016 is a departure from its previous models which aims to boost the sales of the brand in the country. The new crossover is available in the showrooms nationwide and was also centre-staged at the biggest trade show, Manila International Auto Show 2016.
This new Subaru Crossover underpins all-new Subaru Global Platform for all its three variants- 2.0i-L, 2.0i-Premium and 2.0 XT that brand aims to market in the country. Underneath, the new 2.0i-L and 2.0i-Premium are powered by the brand's Boxer DOHC engine capable of churning out the total output rated at 150 PS of power and 198 Nm of peak torque. While its range-topping XT variant underpins the new turbocharged FA20-DIT engine which is good enough to pour out impressive 241 PS of maximum power along with the peak torque of 350 Nm. Sprinting time remains the same as the naturally-aspirated engine does the century mark in 11.8 seconds while the XT dispatching it in just 7.5 seconds. Mated to a Lineartronic CVT with a symmetrical AWD system and SI-Drive, the 2016 Forester claims to return the mileage in the range of 11-12.8 kmpl on highway and 9.6 kmpl when it is pushed harder.
Although the silhouette is somewhat the same as the previous generation model, the new model has got a more prominent character line running throughout the crossover to make it seem more boxer. You can easily differentiate it from the previous model only by looking at its upgraded front which includes brand new grille and new headlights. In addition to this, the mid-range Premium variant now sports a very sporty new bumper like the XT variant while the slit on each side of the front bumper separates the XT from the naturally-aspirated variants. To complete the look, the rear fascia now features redesigned trunk-lid and new LED taillights. This crossover sports wider stance due to its dimension of 4610 mm x 1795 mm x 1735 mm (L x W x H) along with the 17/18-inch wheels which gets a revised black and polished silver alloys.
The interior exudes a typical Subaru- all premium and supreme. The brand has continued its legacy in the Forester as its interior is very ergonomic just like its other models. The cabin is very driver-centric in its class with easy-to-operate controls and power-adjustable driver seat which offer a very joyful driving experience. The premium feel inside the cabin is further accentuated with the leather and soft-touch materials as well as brushed aluminium accents. Multifunction display now seems to be standard on all the Subarus, and its Premium and XT models have received new LCD cluster display and the new feature of the PIN code access which enables the driver to unlock/lock the car using 5-digit Pin code. What's more, new increased dimension also means better legroom and headroom with an increased luggage space of 891-litres which makes the drive more comfortable and enjoyable.
Earlier, the Forester was the only one in its class to offer a set of six airbags as standard, and this year it has crossed its own limit by increasing the count to 7 as an additional driver knee airbag. Aiming to continue to bag more accolades, the new Forester is designed with a vast range of advanced systems and safety features like Break Away engine which takes all the impact in case of head-on collision, ABS+EBD+BA, Vehicle Dynamics Control, and Subaru advanced frontal airbag system (SRS).
New Subie has got the strongest selling points from its new face, all-wheel drive system and advanced safety features. It offers both the performance and practicality in one single package which is not common in most of the drives.
