Peugeot 5008 Review
After taking over Citroen completely in 1976, Peugeot became the second largest automotive company in Europe in terms of sales volume after Volkswagen. Peugeot has perfected diesel technology to the extent of preserving and maintaining its level of efficiency minimizing harmful effects. It has been ranked to be amongst the second lowest one pertaining to CO2 emissions along with many international awards to its name. Talking about another progeny of the Peugeot family, 5008 is a compact MPV with smooth sleek lines. This is an MPV that can be considered a head turner without even desperately trying to be one.
Engine, mileage and variants
The French automakers have powered this car through a 1.6 litre engine with Twin scroll turbo high pressure (THP) ,direct petrol injection, 4 inline cylinders and DOHC 16 valve. It can generate a maximum power of 156 PS at 6000 rpm and a maximum torque of 240 Nm at 1400-4250 rpm. The engine is mated with 6 speed auto adaptive gearbox with tiptronic and sport mode. These specs not only give it an outstanding performance but also controls the level of fuel usage. It can give a mileage of around 7.9 litres per 100 km which is appreciable. Coupled with 6-speed automatic transmission , this MPV takes 12.2 seconds to tick the speed mark of 100 km/hr from standstill position.
Its outstanding external appearance is what makes it a favourite choice of numerous car enthusiasts. Right from the front grille and front lights to the company's new emblem which is embossed right at the tip of the bonnet gives it a highly distinctive look. The overall length of this model is 4529 mm whereas its width comes to 2118 mm. It measures 1639 mm in terms of height and is designed with a wheelbase of 2727 mm. Apart from that, wheel size comes to 215/50 R17 with a turning radius of 5.5 meters. As exterior is the one of the attributes which the French automakers are good at, they have used clever design tricks to give it a more aerodynamic and sporty silhouette.
In terms of the interior, you can call it a roomy five-seater or a crowded seven-seater. It has a slightly tilted dashboard made up of high quality materials which complements the interior beautifully. The second and third row seats fold back in order to make a flat floor out of it and hence making even more boot space of 656 litres to load large objects. As soon as you enter the car its panoramic glass roof and vast windscreen would totally entice you as it fills the interior with light and hence increases the feeling of spaciousness. It also has an added feature of electric sun-blind, so that if the sunlight ever gets too bright you can easily turn it on. If we talk about the air-conditioning, you can opt for dual zone as an option which creates perfect environment for every occupant.
Safety, braking and miscellaneous
To keep you as safe as possible, there are many safety features installed in this car. It is equipped with 6 airbags that includes one front and 1 driver airbag along with two side airbags and two curtain airbags. It comes with the clever electronic stability program (ESP) that keeps your car on course and helps to reduce over-steer by braking the individual wheels and lowering the engine power. The car maker has integrated this MPV with a distance alert system that tells you how many seconds away you are from the car which is in front of you and warns you if you get too close to it. As for the braking is concerned, it has anti lock braking system (ABS), electronic brake distribution (EBD) and emergency brake assist (EBA).
