Peugeot, a major French automaker and the world's leading producer of diesel engines is the second largest selling automotive brand in Europe. Peugeot's entry in the Philippines marks its firm commitment to provide cars that deliver the best fuel savings and environment friendly technologies. Earlier Peugeot used to bring only the small cars which made it challenging for them to justify their price but now it has also started bringing in the larger models of its line, and one of them is the 3008 compact crossover. The 3008 shares its base with the older 308 and RCZ. The car is a compact crossover which was first introduced in 2008.
Engine, mileage and variants
Peugeot 3008 is equipped with a 1.6 litre 4 cylinders 16 valve engine with a twin scroll turbo high pressure (THP) and variable valve timing (VVT). This mean machine has the capacity of delivering a maximum power of 158 hp at 6000 rpm in combination with a peak torque output of 240 Nm at 1400 rpm. It is mated to a 6 speed auto adaptive gearbox with tiptronic and sport mode which enhances the on-road performance. The company claims that this motor can deliver a maximum mileage of 7.7 litres per 100 km over big mile drives and is able to reach from 0 to 100 kmph in just 9.5 seconds.
If we talk about the exteriors- a department for which the French are well known for, the 3008 comes out to be a little bit shabby because of its awkwardly over-sized grille but those minor details with which it is sculpted gives it a nice character and colour contrast. Overall length, width and height of this car are 4365 mm, 1837 mm and 1635 mm respectively with a wheel size of 225/50/ R17. This crossover comes with a new front face that echoes the new brand signature design introduced to the Peugeot range last year. It has distinctive light arrangements with the daytime running LED lights and fog lamps which provide extra visibility in difficult driving conditions.
The interiors of this crossover look stylish as well as futuristic. There is an ample use of grays in the interior with a liberal use of glossy accents and bits of chrome to make it more lively. It is equipped with a panoramic glass roof which is made up of tinted and laminated glass, making the drive more enjoyable even at the night. With a boot space of 512 litres it turns out to be very spacious and comfortable. Thanks to the new and practical innovation of multi-flex interiors, the boot floor can be navigated into different arrangements to make more space out of it. The automatic dual zone air conditioning allows you to maintain different temperature of warmth and coolness for the passenger and driver distinctively.
Safety, Braking and Miscellaneous
It uses all latest and intelligent technologies to keep you safe while driving. It features an innovative feature named distance alert which helps you to maintain a safe distance from the car in the front by displaying the number of seconds between you and the vehicle in front of you. It is fitted with 6 smart airbags that blow up according to the force of the impact and hence give you the right level of protection during a mishap. This crossover also provides electronic stability program(ESP), anti lock braking system(ABS), electronic brake distribution(EBD) and emergency brake assist(EBA) for that perfect braking experience.
Although there is nothing bad to say about the new 3008, but despite of having a tall stance it fails to deliver a flawless handling capability. On hard cornering at speed, it takes turn with minimal body roll and the tires put on a fair amount of grip. All in all it doesn't disappoint you with its comfortable ride and a delivers balance between performance and efficiency.
