Mitsubishi Mirage is not a new name for the Philippines auto arena, the car has been around for quite some time now and is regarded amongst the best in the affordable and fuel economy category. The company recently presented the world with a new 2016 Mirage that it claims is an improved version of its previous form. The facelifted version was first showcased at the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show, where it received a hundred percent clean chit from the auto critics. The next stoppage for the new Mirage was 2015 Thailand Motor Show, where it again registered all positive reviews. The long list of Mirage revisions includes two new body colors, tweaked exterior, enhanced interior and much more.
Mitsubishi Mirage was first introduced in 1978 and the production was continued till 2003. After that, the car was re-introduced in 2012. The first generation was sold as a three-door hatchback and then the sedan version was introduced later. In most of the markets, the Mirage is sold under the same badging and now it has emerged as a competitive compact hatchback, which is prominent in most of the aspects.
At first glance, you may not be able to see the changes made by Mitsubishi, but believe us, a much closer look reveals many transformations. New Mirage gets a sporty and sleek exterior design that is accompanied by sharp LED headlamps, chrome-surround honeycomb grille, fog lamps with new LED strip, body colored door handles, re-styled 14-inch alloy wheels, and chrome inserts on the rear side. New Mirage is bestowed with sharp contour line all over, making it more aerodynamic, and further increasing its performance.
To beef up the car design a bit more, even the bumpers are widened to a significant extent. Mitsubishi Mirage is neither the smallest in the segment nor it is the biggest, but, it holds significant dimensions, which is enough to have a comfortable cabin.
Starting off, Mirage now has a three-spoke multifunctional steering wheel that is accompanied by an informative binnacle. Moving on to the center console, now you get a new 300 watt Rockford Fosgate audio system with features like Link Display Audio, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Other additional features include leather covered cozy seats, shift panel, ample storage space and manual air-con system.
Considering the price range in which Mirage is placed, the materials of the cabin cannot be of high-quality but, they are decent enough to not give a downmarket feel. The upholstery is also simple and front seats are comfortable to an extent. The cushions are short and the rear seat will fit three comfortably, if the occupants are of athletic built or skinny. Considering the boot volume, the 60/40 split folding rear seat back give enough room to carry a significant amount of luggage.
All-new Mitsubishi Mirage houses the same old mill that powered its earlier sibling. So, on opening the bonnet you’ll get to see the known 1.2L MIVEC three-cylinder gasoline mill that has not been tweaked even a bit, generating the same power and torque output of 78 PS and 100 Nm respectively. So, you can expect the same fuel economy of 21 km/l along with less CO2 emission and top notch performance. The said engine comes paired with either a 5-speed manual or INVECS-III CVT transmission. The stated figures are enough to push the car on hilly inclines with four people in the cabin with a bit of luggage in the boot.
Being a small 3-cylinder engine, expecting a neck-breaking performance won’t be justified but, even when paired with CVT, the engine feels lively and delivers smooth performance when pushing it on highways.
Mitsubishi Mirage is an affordable car but that doesn’t mean it compromises on the safety front. The car is stuffed with all the latest features, aimed at your family safety and security. So you’ll get features like seven airbags, ABS, Electronic Brake-force Distribution, Brake Assist, Tire Pressure Monitoring System, and Active Stability Control. In addition, new Mirage is also incorporated with keyless entry system, rear door with child lock, side protection beam and enhanced braking.
The all-new Mirage has many attributes in its kit; making it the right pick for most of the customers. From impressive exterior to upgraded safety it has a lot on offer and all that with an affordable price.
