Mercedes-Benz SLK Class Review
Taking the legacy of classic roadster to a higher level, the Bavarian automaker Mercedes-Benz has introduced the latest generation of SLK Class. Based on the Mitsubishi 300GT Spyder and inspired from some of the much acclaimed retractable hardtops the SLK was first introduced in 1996. Since the inception the car has been one of the first choice for the customers who wish for prancing wheels wrapped with utmost elegance and luxury. The series of changes in the designing, performance and features of the Roadster has helped the company in maintaining a significant market share in different geographies and the same is expected in the market of Philippines as well.
Engine, Mileage & Variants
The Roadster is powered by either a 1.8-Litre V4 or 3.5-litre V6 engine that delivers a staggering performance to thrill the occupants in an effective manner. The smaller power unit delivers a power output of 135 – 150 kW at 5250 – 5500 rpm while the peak torque measures 270 – 310 Nm at mere 1800 -4300 rpm. For the 3.5 litre engine, the maximum power delivered by the engine measures 225 kW at 6500 rpm and the peak torque measures 370 Nm at mere 3500 – 5250 rpm. The Roadster is quite quick in picking up numbers and clocking 100 kmph mark from naught will take a time span of 5.6 seconds. Compared to the kind of power the Roadster delivers, the SLK is quite fair on the economical front, as one can get a mileage of 11.1 kmpl.
One glance and SLK will leave you awe inspiring, as the arrow- shaped vehicle body and dynamic contours seem to come directly from Motorsport. The clear lenses of headlamps, dark- tinted tail lights, chrome finished company's insignia and stylish wheel arches all together accentuates the overall design of the SLK. The overall dimensions of the car measure 4134 mm X 1810 mm X 1301 mm (L X W X H) and the wheelbase measure 2430 mm that makes provision for significant cabin space for the occupants. The side profile gets a sporty touch due to the deployment of 17 inch alloy wheels with tyre size measuring 225/ 45 R17.
The interiors of SLK are a perfect symbiosis of uncompromising sportiness and a great deal of space and comfort. The essence of the atmosphere in the generously- sized interior is all about feeling good, relaxing and being able to concentrate what matters most. The warm, white interior lighting and ambient lighting offers you a choice of 7 color moods exuding a feeling of unadulterated comfort. The advanced Burmester High End 3D Surround System, which comes with 24 high performance loudspeakers, and 24 amplifiers with a total system output of 1540 watts makes the cabin a paradise for audiophiles. On the practicality front the Roadster don't have much to offer but, still a boot volume of 225 – 235 litres is quite fair to carry luggage on long routes.
Safety, Braking and Miscellaneous
With its sportingly tuned suspension, the SLK is already optimally prepared for a dynamic driving style – whilst remaining astonishingly comfortable on different terrain. The braking system employed in the car consists of high performance composite materials which not only ensures the shortest of stopping distances but also offers a braking performance normally found in Motorsport. The car includes other safety features like Driving Assistance package Plus, Spot Assist, Lane Change Assist, Distronic Plus with Steer Control and so on which are more than enough to ensure your safety.
With its compelling designing, improved performance and hassle free handling, the SLK Roadster stands strong against the other top guns like BMW Z4 and Audi TT Coupe.
