KIA Grand Carnival Review
Kia Philippines has ended the year 2015 with the surprise launch of the long overdue brand's long-running minivan which is rather considered as a large MPV. Kia's distributor, Columbian Autocar Corporation took the wraps off of the brand's MPV during the second quarter of 2015 which was designed at Kia's Namyang, Korea Design Studio. The Filipino-spec Grand Carnival with its European-inspired design has now come up with a completely redesigned exterior and interior. Under the hood, it is packed with an upgraded version of Kia's 2.2-litre in-line four-cylinder, 16-valve diesel engine boasting a maximum power of 200 PS at 3800 rpm along with a maximum torque measuring 441 Nm between 1750 and 2750 rpm. The engine is integrated with Common Rail Direct injection technology (CRDi) paired with six-speed automatic transmission with Sport mode. The front fascia is tweaked with the chrome radiator grille along with almond-shaped projector headlamps. Designed under the theme of ”modern and wide” and inspired by the aeronautic environment, the Kia Grand Carnival is integrated with dual power sliding doors, large moon roof, three-zone climate controls along with an all-new instrument cluster in a horizontal layout giving the feeling of more space. Inside, space is further increased by the rise of 17.5% in cargo space. The Grand Carnival comes in either seven-seat configuration (2+2+3 format) or an 11-seater configuration with a longer 3060 mm wheelbase providing more legroom than the previous generation MPV. Along with superior and premium exterior and interior, Grand Carnival also offers advanced anti-collision features and high strength chassis to provide a sense of maximum safety.
Mileage and Fuel economy
The new Kia Grand Carnival is packed with an efficient 2.2-litre engine which not only knocks out sufficient power but also proves to be efficient in terms of fuel consumption. This engine claims to return the fuel economy of 17.94 kmpl along with the improved lower CO2 emissions of 179g/km.

Acceleration & Pickup
The 2.2-litre CRDi diesel powertrain is quite decent when it comes to power and performance. The efficient sole engine is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission which can sprint from naught to 100 kmph in 11.3 seconds reaching the top speed of 196 kmph. For a big family vehicle, this acceleration and pick up is pretty commendable keeping its kerb weight in mind.

This powertrain coupled with E-GVT with intercooler technology is capable of knocking out a peak power output measuring to 200 PS at 3800 rpm along with a peak torque counting to 441 Nm between the range of 1750 and 2750 rpm. Mated with 6-speed automatic transmission with Sport mode, this engine shows impressive efficiency and performance.
Stereo and Accessories
The new Kia Grand Carnival is packed with numerous entertainment features which ensure that the drives are fun-filled and entertaining. The standard audio system of this drive comprises 3.8-inch Mono TFT LCD display, MP3 and CD player. The occupants can also sync their mobile devices through USB and AUX to play their favorite numbers. For crisp and clear sound, six speakers are packed around the cabin. The audio switches are plotted at the steering also so that the driver may control them with much convenience.

It is integrated with advanced braking facilities like the Brake Assist System and Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) for complete control. The MacPherson strut front suspension is carried over from the previous generation model along with a multi-link rear suspension to enhance the ride comfort and driving stability as well as dynamics. At its rear, there is gas type shock absorbers which double sure the comfort on varied terrains. For an efficient braking experience, this drive is packed with ventilated disc brakes at front and solid disc brakes at the rear pair.
Safety and Security
Built with an advanced 55% high strength steel, the Grand Carnival MPV is resistant to impacts and collisions owing to the collision structure design. The large MPV is integrated with both passive and active safety features like Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and Cornering Brake Control (CBC) to help the driver stay on his/her course. Its active safety system includes Hill-Start control and Traction Control System while the passive safety system features advanced airbags and height-adjustable seatbelt along with Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children (LATCH) to minimize the impact. For the safety of the vehicle, engine immobilizer is also provided. Also, keyless entry along with burglar alarm is employed in this MPV for the convenience and protection.
