I have been driving the Brio for over a year now and it has never failed to impress me with its power and agility. The boot space leaves much to be desired but it is indeed a little pocket rocket. Climbing mountains is a breeze thanks to its 1.3L i-VTEC engine. Love this car! Read More

Many think that the Brio is a weirdly designed car, especially from the rear. But I loved this cute hatchback at the first look. Moreover, when I drove a friend’s Brio, I instantly knew I want to bring one home for myself. And it has now been more than two years with my Brio S MT. Boot space aside, this Read More

Review of Honda Brio

Apart from manifesting their desire for powerful vehicles, Honda Motor Company keeps the tradition alive of creating stylish family cars, small and subcompact hatchback since its inception looking after the needs of specific country and city residents. With Honda Brio, company manufactured subcompact hatchback in the year 2011 has broken new ground and surpasses all that have come before it in the mini segment. Looking at the car's profile, the auto enthusiasts got something to cater and talk about adding-on to the exciting lifestyle and needs of urban families. The “Brio” name of this car itself boosts up energetic and cheerful spirit despite being in its small size. Initially, it was only unveiled in Thai and Indian auto markets. But, later on with the demand and surprising positive reaction it has received, Brio made the global presence including Philippines where it was launched on September 18, 2014 at the Philippines International Motor Show.

Now, Philippines auto market is said to be one of the family ground for this hatch baby. Variants S MT, S AT, V Navi MT and V Navi AT available for the local residents is equipped with 1.3-litre i-VTEC engine, in-lined 4 cylinder SOHC engine that gives maximum power output of 100 PS at 6000 rpm along with the high torque of 127 Nm at 4800 rpm. This has got further support of 5-Speed Automatic and Manual Transmission to provide maximum energy and flexible driving on gear changes. Not much to flaunt about its styling but yes, designers have tried to give it a different shape. Specially its rear end featuring rear defroster panel, distinctively designed round bulging taillight, extended roof spoiler and chrome-insert boot gate. Interior theme is kept in black tinge all over including the seat material, dashboard and steering. Cargo volume it offers may disappoint you and is disadvantage to the car. Although, the touch screen in the centre dashboard housed may astonish you in such a small car directing you to right places through navigation. Safety features employed are okay considering it a small-segment car, including dual SRS airbag system, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), immobilizer and more. Thus, the new Honda Brio is a good take made for small families delivering exceptional mileage count.

Mileage and Fuel economy

The 1.3-litre i-VTEC petrol unit is integrated with programmed fuel injection system (PFI). This engineering employed inside is to make Brio fuel efficient and environment friendly. With manual transmission gearbox you can get mileage of this car of 7.7 litre/100km kmpl in combined driving cycle.

More than just style and comfort, the Brio carries a powerful 1.3-litre SOHC i-VTEC engine, in-lined 4 cylinder and 16 valves that gives you a thoroughly satisfying drive wherever you go. It produces 100 PS at 6000 rpm along with the high torque of 127 Nm at 4800 rpm through its enlarged intake valve diameter and torque boost resonator.

Acceleration & Pickup

Considering the overall structure of the car with body weight and other dynamics, the 1.3-litre Honda Brio is expected to touch the 0-100 kmph speed mark in about 12.5 seconds. At the same time, it propels the vehicle in attaining a top speed of 185 kmph which is not bad at all.

Looking at Honda Brio's rear profile you will notice the intricacy added to the car. This new car is a simple, fascinating and everyday lifestyle compatible subcompact hatchback foreground with improved aesthetics and functional enhancements. Its stylish front bumper and chrome grille dominate the front with smooth contours for enhanced aerodynamics. Halogen projector headlights give Brio a subtle wind swept look while providing better visibility at night. Lower bumper is provided in black plastic cladding with company badge marked upon it. Its door handle and outside mirrors are kept in same as the body colour which directly increases the fun element of Brio. Distinctively designed rear windscreen and roof spoiler employed with high stop brake light make it stand out in the crowd. Rear defroster clears condensation and frost jammed over windshield for clear back view to the driver. 14-inch of solid alloy rims for a dash of elegance in your sprint is outfitted to Brio. Tail lights compliment Brio's boot gate for a stylish flair. The exterior structure of this hatch makes it compact yet spacious inside.

Exterior Measurements

Overall dimensions of this subcompact hatchback is measured as 3610 mm x 1680 mm x 1485 mm (L X W X H) portraying image of a perfect small family car. The wheelbase of the car is 2345 mm which may fall short for the rear cabin passengers space but OKAY for a small motor vehicle.

The Japanese automakers have been famous throughout decades to innovate different flair of auto designs experimenting on the overall layout. Besides its subcompact exterior dimensions Brio offers sufficient space inside the cabin. Although, the rear passengers may feel little bit cramped sitting in the seats. But, nothing fall short in the cockpit. Black theme set interiors culminate sense of sophistication with little chrome-inserts on steering wheel, gearshift box and door handles. Seats are flexible, can be shifted to and fro for comfort seating position and equipped with necessary driver's informative panel. Two air conditioning vents are placed on the sides of display screen in such an angle that directly sends cool waves to rear passenger cabin. In short, maintains optimal temperature in complete surrounding.

The adjustable steering wheel with the urethane cover on it compliments the driver's height adjustment seat to sit in comfort position while driving. The door panels are provided with power sliding door buttons. Little details made in its interior structure like cup holders, large door pockets and backrest hook keep this hatch baby in competition with the other predecessors.

Interior Measurements

Cargo volume compartment of this Honda hatchback is very small which may complicate your heavy-load travel trip plans. Standard, 175-litres of boot space is offered by this mini hatchback to which you can laden small suitcases and few bags.

Engine and Performance

This subcompact mini hatchback from Honda is powered with 1.3-litre, 4-cylinders in line with 16-valves, SOHC i-VTEC engine that makes it efficient car when it comes to fuel economy. Mated with 5-speed manual transmission and 5-speed automatic gearbox it becomes capable enough to deliver decent performance on city roads of its high torque at low rpm. The pick up numbers and engine performance it give may not be the best-in-class but considering its small size and meagre engine house it is acceptable. It churns out maximum power output of 100 PS at 6000 rpm along with the high torque of 127 Nm at 4800 rpm.

Stereo and Accessories

Honda Brio takes care of your fun craving while travelling over different courses for long hours and just want to sit back, relax and enjoy listening to your favourite tracks. Adding on to the elegance factor of the lateral side of Honda Brio it comes fitted in 5-spoked wheels. The standard size of wheels is 14-inch of which tyre size is measured as 175/65 R14.

Braking and Handling

In case of emergency braking to bring the car to a safe stop Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist (BA) helps to evenly apply brake force to all the wheels.

Safety and Security

Brio is a decent hatchback by Honda that ensures its passengers safety to give them freedom to roam around. For added safety, the hatchback comes with Dual Front SRS Airbags for driver and front passenger. The seats are fixed with pre-tensioners with load limiter seatbelt to avoid jitters on uneven roads.
