Geely Emgrand EC8 Review
Geely Emgrand EC8 was initially launched at the Beijing Auto Show in the year 2010, and was produced by the elite division of Geely designated as Emgrand. After Emgrand EC7, this large executive car is the second product by Emgrand hitting export markets globally. With its upgraded petrol engines, enhancements of fuel efficiency and exceptionally comfortable cabin, this full-fledged sedan is all set to electrify the Philippines auto market. Retaining an economical price tag, the new Emgrand EC8 encloses breath-taking appearance which is enticing enough.
Engine, mileage & variants
For Philippines buyers, this newly designed sedan is made available in three different variants named as MT GS, AT GL and AT GT. All of these trim levels are powered with two petrol engine variants of capacity of 2.0 litre and 2.4 litre. The 2.0 litre engine produces the maximum power of 104 kW at 6000 rpm, with high torque of 178 Nm in between 4000 to 4500 rpm. Whereas, the 2.4 litre engine churns out a maximum power of 115 kW at 6000 rpm, along with the peak torque of 213 Nm at 4000 rpm. In terms of fuel economy, the 2.0 litre engine delivers the fair mileage of 10.8 kmpl. Whereas, the same engine takes 13.0 seconds to acquire the mark of 100 kmph from a stand still, while the top speed stands at 180 kmph.
New Emgrand EC8 follows the signature layout of Geely family, which reflects a blend of grace and boldness. The logo of EMGRAND mounted at the centre of front grille gives a flawless façade to its front. Chrome plating long and streamlined windows with wide and dark adorned strip grants a new graceful touch to its side profile. Appointed antenna, horizontal decorative strips at rear side finished with chrome accents and elegant tail lamps depicts the captivating rear trimming of this sedan. To express the robust persona, this car has been employed with a set of 17 inch alloy wheels with tire specification as 215/55 R17. The exterior dimensions of this car measure 4905mm x 1830mm x 1495mm (L x W x H) and its standard wheelbase stands at 2805 mm, providing significant amount of space inside the cabin.
Inside, the new Emgrand EC8 focuses towards the luxury, as it is fully covered with class-leading leather and offer ample of space to stretch your legs and arms. Piano finished plates, superior titanium silver accents, incorporated fabric and Japan imported smooth dashboard panel attracts you towards this sedan and gives a salubrious aura inside. Its wide and comfortable seating arrangement can accommodate five individuals easily. Besides that, this luxury sedan offers a boot space of 504 litres which is designed for the humanized convenience. Furthermore, it has also been embedded with tri-zone double circle instrument cluster with dark black background giving all important vehicle information to the driver. Its audio-visual entertainment system featuring CD, MP3 and radio tuner, along with premium speakers throughout the cabin offer class-leading sound quality. Also, the steering wheel features four-direction adjustable function, mounted with control buttons adding the reflecting its driver-oriented layout.
Safety, Braking and Miscellaneous
The Chinese manufacturers have highly emphasized on the safety quotient of this sedan, as it the most important thing, while developing an automobile. It adapts the in-built concept GTSM (Geely Total Safety Management) integrating collision protection and pedestrian protection. It is equipped with the latest version of disc brakes, along with the new generation anti-lock braking system and electronic brake force distribution, accentuating the vehicle’s dynamics in an effective manner. Further, it comes fitted with safety assisted protection airbag system, contracting the impact at the event of collision or accident. MacPherson suspension comes outfitted at front axle, while the rear ones are installed with multi-link suspension, offering superior handling to the driver.
