Chevrolet Spark Review
A family and city car, Chevrolet Spark was introduced by Chevrolet brand under General Motors in year 1998 originally as Daewoo Matiz. The five door hatchback has undergone four generations of productions till today. The car was unveiled at New York International Auto Show 2015 in its current fourth generation and is engineered with Android Auto capability features. The assemble of Chevrolet Spark in its present generation took place in South Korea and the car is found very much similar to Opel Karl. Spark is sold with the nameplate of Opel Karl and Vauxhall Viva in many countries.
Engine, Mileage and Variants
Chevrolet Spark is comprised of 2 engine variants as 1.0-litre and 1.2-litre. The 1.0-litre engine variant with L4 cylinders, DOHC and 16 valves produces a maximum power output of 68 PS at 6400 rpm and maximum torque of 93 Nm at 4800 rpm. The bigger sibling 1.2-litre engine variant with L4 cylinders, DOHC 16 valves produces a maximum power output of 81 PS at 6200 rpm and maximum torque of 110 Nm at 4600 rpm. Spark attains a maximum speed of 174 kmph by its 1.2-litre engine accelerating from 0-100 kmph in 12.7 seconds time. The combined mileage of Spark by its 1.2-litre engine is 15.6 kmpl.
Chevrolet Spark consists of an exterior dimension of 3640 mm x 1597mm x 1522 mm (L X W X H) along with a wheelbase of 2375 mm. The 3 dimensional triangular headlamps with front fog lamps are introduced so as to provide a better vision in darkness and avoid collision. The black radiator front grille with Chevrolet insignia dividing it in 2 parts embraces its front view. The roof mounted antenna at its front top and chrome exhaust outlet at its rear equally complements to its appealing exterior beauty with body coloured door handles and front and rear bumpers. The rear spoiler in integrated with high mounted LED stop lamp in it.
The interior features of Chevrolet Spark are embraced with single zone manual air conditioning system with cabin air filter so as the internal temperature can be maintained as required. The driver is kept updated by displaying all the vehicle related information such as top speed, average fuel consumption and more. The 4 speaker sound system comes integrated with a 7-inches diagonal color touch screen display (optional) with AM, FM radio player in it that enhances connectivity via axillary input jack and USB port. The 60:40 foldable rear seats when folded creates an ample of interior cabin space. The steering wheel comes coupled with phone, cruise and audio control buttons on it.
Safety, Braking and Miscellaneous
The hatchback comes packed with dual-SRS airbags in it including driver and front passenger air bags. Other features included are central door lock, remote keyless entry, anti-theft system, electronic immobiliser etc. However it lags basic features like ABS (Anti-lock braking system), EBD and BA which is a major set back for the drive.
The small hatchback, Spark offers a roomy cabin for the class with intuitive tech features. The car is easy to manoeuvre in tight spaces but lacks acceleration due to its underpowered engine variants.
