MANILA: It looks like the South Korean automaker, Hyundai is not leaving any segment to mark its presence. With Genesis, the brand has already touched the luxury segment and IONIQ project will take care of the self-driving cars segment. Now, the company is working to enter the compact SUV segment and take on the likes of players like Ford Ecosport, Nissan Juke, Chevrolet Trax and Suzuki Brezza. Yes, a new compact SUV is on its way that will sit below the Creta in the company’s lineup and will mark its presence in 2019.
The compact SUV will not follow the company’s much acclaimed fluidic 2.0 philosophy and will feature a tall body design. The wide front grille looks stylish and the sleek headlights complement it in an effective manner. The upcoming SUV is expected to contribute around 25 percent of Korean automaker’s overall sale numbers. For the initial phase, the automaker is planning to target the native country with a target of 7 lakh units by the year 2020.
According to the officials of Hyundai, the growth of SUV market is a global trend and even the Philippines is witnessing a growing demand of compact SUVs. So, we expect Hyundai will not leave this emerging market and will introduce the rival of Ford Ecosport in our country as well.
The Hyundai's compact SUV might be tagged as Carlino but, for now, the company is working on it as project QXi. Even the engine configuration is not clear yet but, it is expected that the South Korean automaker will equip the compact SUV with a 1.0-litre turbocharged engine.
