MANILA: Toyota has a history which dates back to 1937. Since then, this Japanese automaker has managed to deliver some masterpieces to this world. It boasts of a long journey which started from a maker of automatic textile looms to the largest automaker in the world. Philippines got its first date with Toyota in 1988 and since then it has always witnessed a rising graph. Today the scenario is, that Toyota models sell like hot cake in Philippines.
Worldwide, there have been a number of memorable Toyota cars which carried forward its legacy. So we at Carbay decided to present you with a list of five iconic Toyotas which had the greatest impact on the world.
1. 1948 Celica Supra
The name Celica is derived from the latin word 'coelica' which means 'heavenly' or 'celestial'. This was the first Supra that was appreciated by many. Under the hood, it was powered by a 2.8-litre DOHC inline six-cylinder engine. The first generation of Supra was based largely upon the Toyota Celica liftback.
2. 1985 Corolla GTS
It is a small lightweight car with aerodynamic body and was made available as coupe and hatchback. Further, it was powered by an 112 hp DOHC 16-valve inline four-cylinder engine. Corolla has always been one of the best-selling car nameplate for Toyota in all times. But this Corolla is to die for.
3. 1992 Camry
This is considered to be the greatest Toyota of all time. With limousine-style doors and an interior more comfortable than most Hiltons, it managed to break all the sales charts. Ever since that, all Camrys were regularly being the bestselling ones.
4. 1960 Land Cruiser FJ40
As a tribute to its effective design, this car continued almost unchanged for more than 20 years. The last unit of this car was sold in 1983 which was a full 24 years after it was introduced. Being agricultural in operation, this car was not much sophisticated or luxurious.
5. 1967 2000GT
After being featured in a James Bond movie, this car grabbed much attention. Under the hood, it was powered by a robust six-cylinder engine. Being assembled by Yamaha, a total of 351 or just 337 units were produced between 1967 and 1970. In spite of that, it is known as Toyota's best.
